Dr. D. James Kennedy suffered a cardiac arrest at his Fort Lauderdale home on Thursday evening, December 28. Dr. Kennedy remains hospitalized at this time, however has made very encouraging progress in the last few days. He is off life support, sitting up, and speaking with family.
We are so thankful for your prayers and encouragement! Please continue to pray for Dr. Kennedy and his family during his recovery.
-Brian E. Fisher, Executive Vice President
While I know that there may be some reading this who may have disagreed with Dr. Kennedy’s political stands or other areas of his ministry, let me say this as an insider. I have been a minister at Coral Ridge for 10 years. In that time I have been treated wonderfully by Dr. Kennedy. He has been warm, caring, gracious, and kind. I have seen him, when faced with a picketer outside holding a sign that read “Dr. Kennedy is Hitler” or some other such hatred, not ignore it, but go out into the hot Florida sun and share the gospel, often taking this picketer to lunch. It would have been very easy, particularly with the schedule that Dr. Kennedy keeps to ignore such people, but he did not. That is the kind of man he is. Every Thursday night he has been out on Evangelism Explosion when many in the church who were far more able than he stayed home. That is the kind of man he is. He did his best to attend the many events of the many ministries that he had started, sometimes gone every night of the week when he was tired, felt poorly, and could have been at home resting. He was there because he wanted to help those ministries. That is the kind of man he is. A man committed to the gospel and committed to the Lord.
While some may not agree with him, you cannot deny that he has led an exemplary life for the Lord. One without shame or dishonor. I am proud to be a member of his staff and his church and I would ask that you, agree with his politics or not, would pray for one of God’s great servants in this century.
