Pass it on.  Your hoping someday to be a clear bright shining window, but for now a “brittle, crazy glass,” Pastor Sam.

What I find refreshing about this style of preaching is that it is done with the sense that the preacher has done all the heavy lifting of exegesis, and presents as a gift to the listener the point of the text, rather than the popular approach of walking the listener through the labor of exegesis. Now I know that statement can be used to whack me over the head. But first keep in mind that I do think it is important for a Christian to learn how to exegete, but I think it is assumed that the way a preacher studies is also the way the preacher should preach. The sermon Dr. Lamerson on the Witch of Endor that Dr. Lamerson references in this sermon is an example of walking the listener through the exegesis. Both methods have their places, but this approach seems to appeal to me more so than the other at this moment in my life. Maybe because I’m a seminary student and of exegetical exhaustion. smile
