News from San Diego

I am in the airport in San Diego getting ready to fly home from the annual meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society. All in all it has been a good time. I saw many of my friends whom I have not seen since last years conference and getting together with them is always a good time. I heard some good papers on matters as diverse as renouncing Satan in early Christian Baptism, the New Perspective on Paul, and many other interesting topics.
I bought books! At ETS most of the evangelical publishers of text books sell their books at 50% off, realizing that a good word from a professor about a work can sell many copies, or that the use of a book as a required text in a class can up sales considerably. The backache that I have now is the result of carrying all of my new books (some in my luggage and some in bags to carry on), but I would not have it any other way. I am excited about the new things that I will be able to read and will post a list within the next couple of days.
Seeing my old friends reminds me of how much time has really passed. Many of us know each other from our days in graduate school at Trinity. It seems so long ago now that Josiah was in Kindergarten and Charity was in third grade. Where does the time go? I celebrated my 48th birthday yesterday by going to the mall for a milk shake. That is about as far away from the book room and the lecture sessions that I went.
I will be posting my paper on the question of Zacchaeus and his dwarfism within a few days. It was received as an interesting and novel idea, but there are lots of those floating around. I am glad to be on my way back to S. Florida. Plenty of books to read and lots of ideas to think about. I will give you a more compete report in a day or so. Right now I am ready to board the plane and head back to the real coast.
Onward . . .
